How Does Lash Lamination Work?

Lash lifts are like getting a perm for your eyelashes. Your technician will apply a silicone mold to your eyelashes. Once the lashes are in place, the technician will apply a special chemical to your lashes, followed by a perm solution. All of the chemicals need to sit on your lashes for about 15 minutes.1

This combination of solutions reshapes the chemical bonds within the hair to hold it in a curled position. When the solutions are rinsed away and the mold is removed, your lashes will look lifted as if you just used a lash curler on them.

Eyelash lamination prices are usually around $100 and $120 per session.2

Unlike extensions or false lashes, lamination simply enhances your natural lashes. You won’t need to do any special upkeep to keep the lift looking fresh. You can use mascara if you like, but some people find the lift enough and put down the wand.3

If you want to add impact to your lash lift, you can try adding a lash tint. During a lash tint procedure, a technician applies a semi-permanent dye to the lashes to give them a color boost. It takes about 15 minutes and can deliver fuller and darker lashes.4

Is Lash Lamination Permanent?

Like a hair perm, lash lamination only affects the strands present for the treatment. As your lashes grow out or shed naturally, new, untreated lashes will grow in. The effects typically last about six weeks before new, unlifted lashes start to appear.

You can go back for additional treatments if you like the look. Just be careful that you don’t overprocess your lashes. Eyelash lamination side effects can include premature shedding of lashes or damage to follicles that inhibits new lash growth.5

Is Eyelash Lamination Safe?

At-home eyelash lamination can be safe when you follow the instructions carefully and perform a patch test beforehand. Since these products are used near your eyes, it’s important to make sure your skin doesn’t react to the solution. Apply a small amount to your inner arm or behind your ear 48 hours before your treatment. If there’s no irritation or reaction, you can proceed with the full application. Always choose a high-quality kit with clear, detailed instructions.
